Cybersecurity risks can increase over the summer

While we all welcome summer, Horizon wants to remind you that the season comes with some increased security risks.

Temporary Staff: If you’re hiring temporary or seasonal workers, be sure they’re well trained on cybersecurity practices and they’re only accessing your network with secured devices.

Phishing Attacks: Cybercriminals can take advantage of vacation auto-replies and out-of-office notices to target employees with phishing attacks, knowing that there might be a delay in response or verification.

Unsecured Devices: Employees work remotely or use personal devices more frequently during the summer, which can introduce additional security risks if these devices are not properly secured.

Increased Travel: Employees traveling for vacation or business might connect to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks, increasing the risk of data breaches or cyberattacks.

Employee Vacation: If you’re relying on a single IT professional to monitor and monitor and respond to security incidents or manage your IT in general, their vacation plans will leave you short-handed. This can lead to slower detection and response times for potential threats and delays in resolving staff issues.   Summer can be a good time to revisit some of the ways you manage your security and IT.
