Tools for Educators

Classroom App

The Classroom app turns iPad and Mac into powerful teaching assistants, helping educators guide students through lessons and keep them focused on the task at hand. Teachers can launch a specific app, website or textbook page on each student’s device. Or when needed, they can mute student devices or lock iPad into a single app for uninterrupted learning. And Managed Apple Accounts allow for the Classroom app to be configured with class rosters automatically, so teachers can start working with their students right away.

Teachers can create agendas with tasks and associated actions, such as opening and locking students into an app. The built-in timer in Classroom can help teachers set expectations and streamline lessons by getting students into the right place at the right time – together. And once teachers have created an agenda, they can save and duplicate it to adjust it for other classes or share with colleagues.

Classroom works at any distance. Students in proximity can automatically join the class when the session begins, and teachers can choose to connect remotely to all other students in just a few taps. Teachers can get started straight away with Classroom by simply downloading it from the App Store and adding student devices. Alternatively, they can work with classes created for them in Apple School Manager.

Schoolwork

The Schoolwork app harnesses the creative power of iPad for hands-on learning. Even when they’re out of the classroom, teachers can share a variety of content with students, including PDFs, files, photos, videos, documents, links, exit tickets, apps, and even activities within apps. And Schoolwork helps teachers to keep up with how everyone in class is doing, so they can tailor their teaching to the needs of each student. They can easily view class or student progress data and use it to help assess and personalise instruction for each student.

It’s easy for students to use, too. Assignments and announcements automatically appear on their iPad devices, organised by due date and class. And students have a single place to find content and instruction, submit work and view their progress.

Using Schoolwork also allows teachers and students to work together in real time, even when they’re not physically together. They can quickly collaborate using Pages, Numbers or Keynote in iCloud at any time, from anywhere.

Assessment

iPad and Mac are powerful learning devices that educators can use for all forms of assessment, including secure exams that can be automatically configured using assessment mode. Apple also offers an array of formative learning apps for evaluating student progress as they prepare for standardized testing.

Teaching Code with Apple

When educators teach coding, they’re not only teaching the language of technology, but also teaching new ways to bring ideas to life. Apple has designed resources to make it easy for anyone to learn, write, and teach app design, coding and app development. Coding resources use the Swift Playgrounds app to help educators teach essential skills that can be applied no matter what career students pursue. And the Develop in Swift Tutorials support students and educators by teaching industry-recognized skills with Xcode.
